How your data is handled

Quad works because people put real work on it, and people do that when they know where it goes. Here is the whole picture.

Your profile is yours

You write it. Quad does not read your student record or your staff record, and there is no integration for your university to switch on.

Your name, university, school and role are visible to everyone on Quad — they are how people recognise you and how they know you are really there. Everything else is yours to add when you want to.

What is off until you turn it on

  • Your subjects, by name
  • What you do outside work
  • Your email address

Each one starts off. When a switch is off the field is removed before the page is built, not hidden by styling, so it is genuinely not there. You can see exactly what other people see while you edit, in your profile.

Quad has no field for any of this
  • Your class times, or the days you are in a room
  • Room numbers and building names for your courses
  • Your date of birth or your age
  • Anything taken from a student or staff record

A searchable timetable tells a stranger where a named person will be at a given hour, so there is nowhere in Quad to put one. The check runs in code: if a field like that is added, the build fails. Your class year does the same social job — it says roughly where you are in your studies without saying where you are at two o'clock.

Trackers

Quad loads no analytics script, no advertising pixel and no third-party embed. Fonts come from Quad's own server, so using the product makes no request to anyone else.

What is counted

Searches, post views, replies and reactions, so we can tell whether Quad is actually introducing people to each other. Those counts are written on the server from things people did, and they are used to make the product better rather than to target anybody. Nothing is sold and nothing is shared.

These are counts of events, not a profile of you. Nothing here records how any one person browses, and no figure is used to target anybody.

Your session

An opaque random token in a cookie that no script can read. It holds nothing about you. There is no password anywhere in Quad, because Quad signs you in with a link instead — so there is nothing to steal from us and nothing for you to reuse elsewhere.

Leaving

You can export everything you have written, or delete your account, from your profile. Deleting removes your profile and your posts. Replies other people wrote in your threads stay, so their conversations still make sense, attributed to a deleted account.
